Box Office: ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ Dominates With $14.5 Million on Friday as ‘Cat in the Hat’ Follows With $6 Million
Sorry, Dr. Seuss — “The Cat in the Hat” was no match for “Godzilla Minus Zero,” which thrashed its way to the top of the box office on Friday. “Godzilla Minus Zero,” the highly anticipated sequel to 2023’s “Godzilla Minus One,” generated $14.5 million from 3,254 North American th
The box office has a new king, and it's Godzilla. The latest installment, "Godzilla Minus Zero," raked in $14.5 million on Friday, taking the top spot and showing that the appetite for monster movies remains strong. This sequel to 2023's "Godzilla Minus One" seems to be living up to the hype, and its success will likely have studios taking note and wondering if they can replicate this formula.
The competition, specifically "The Cat in the Hat," couldn't quite keep up, earning $6 million on Friday. While Dr. Seuss's beloved character has been a staple of children's entertainment for generations, it seems that the nostalgia factor wasn't enough to propel it to the top of the box office. This could be a sign that audiences are gravitating towards more franchise-driven content, or in this case, a specific genre like monster movies.
What's next to watch is how "Godzilla Minus Zero" performs over the weekend and if it can maintain its momentum. With a strong opening, the movie will likely be a contender for the top spot come Sunday. Additionally, studios will be keeping an eye on the performance of other upcoming monster movies and sequels to see if this trend will continue. Will "The Cat in the Hat" be able to recover and find its footing, or will it get lost in the shuffle of bigger, more franchise-driven releases?
